Relationship Stress, Worry, and Anxiety

Relationships can be our greatest source of happiness and also our greatest source of worry.

  • Are you in conflict with a boss, a coworker or a family member?
  • Are you wondering how to resolve an issue with someone and not sure what to do?
  • Are you feeling hurt or angry because someone said or did something that upset you?
  • Are you wondering what to do about a relationship that is troubling?
  • Do you compare yourself to others or feel shy in social situations?
  • Are you losing sleep replaying situations or anticipating future encounters with someone?

If you are experiencing stress, worry, or anxiety due to relationship issues you are not alone.  When relationships are going well, they can be our greatest source of happiness. When they are not, they can be our biggest source of anxiety and worry. Since we have so many types of relationships, we all experience relationship stress at times.  When it gets too painful or confusing it is time to seek support.

Therapy Can Help

Counseling can help you evaluate and reduce your relationship stress and anxiety through understanding and action. Human relationships are often complex and the way forward may not be clear to you.  Having someone to talk to will help you clarify your feelings and your options.

Many people think that talking to friends about relationship issues is enough. In some situations that is true but in many other situations it is not. Well-meaning friends are not always able to see clearly. They may know some of the people you are talking about and have feelings and opinions of their own that confuse you. They may be too busy to give you the in-depth time that would be most helpful. Even if they are willing to give you a lot of time and good advice, you may worry about burdening them with your personal difficulties.  People who come to therapy are generally relieved to be speaking with a neutral listener. When you come to therapy, you are talking to a skilled professional whose only goal is to help you feel happier.
